Friends of Danby Wood (FoDW): The Norwich Fringe Project supports many “Friends” groups around the area. On Saturday 16th November Matt Davies led a workday with the FoDW where 32 volunteers from nearby Eaton Rise cleared glades, cut back ivy, picked litter and planted over 100 trees. We had a good fire going to burn the brash which left me with a rosy glow at the end of the day. Strawberries and Rain

Strawberry Field, near Eaton is a new location for our Volunteers and during November we made three visits to this site off Bluebell Road in Eaton all led by Paula. The field was once used for growing strawberries but has been fallow for many years. There is a well-used footpath along the field edge between Bluebell Road and the River Yare and in the summer the field is used for launching hot air balloons. Continue reading Strawberries and Rain

A Roundup of Recent Workdays

As well as our longer projects our Volunteers also tackle many shorter, day long jobs, around our patch. This is the time of year when we are between the intense woodland work and the start of the regular path cutting projects and is a time to catch up with the smaller jobs around our sites. Tree Maintenance

Thursday 22nd & Friday 23rd March 2018

It is difficult to appreciate how big Earlham Park is until you have spent two days there trundling a wheelbarrow around the site searching out trees to maintain.¬†Some years back a large number of trees were planted¬†around the park and now needed some TLC. The trees are protected by metal guards – many of which were loose and needed fixing. There were also several trees that hadn’t survived and needed to be replaced. Continue reading Tree Maintenance
